Ciaran Boyle
Ciaran is recognised as a true master of the bodhran. Winner of the All Britain and All Ireland titles, he has appeared on radio and television both in Ireland and the UK. He is in great demand for recording and session work and is gaining a excellent reputation as a teacher and workshop leader.
Ciaran was brought up in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, his father emigrating from Co. Kilkenny along with his brother and sister in the fifties. He brought with him a knowledge and passion for music and song which he passed on to all five of his children. His mum was a traditional singer too, and Ciaran counts himself lucky to be brought up in a house full of music and visiting musicians. The family was very much part of the Irish community in South Yorkshire, the music being a natural expression of identity.
Ciaran plays bodhrans by Gerhard Kress.
Ciaran (together with Chris) are working on fantastic Yorkshire based songwriter Ray Hearnes’ new album, which is currently being recorded at Chumbawambas’ studio in Leeds. Ciaran be seen performing with several South Yorkshire based groups and also gives bodrahn lessons.
